SMILE Together is a Sport England Funded Project
Sport England released their new funding initiative to engage and encourage more families to become active in sport and physical activity together. We were successful and received funding to deliver a 4 year funded project for families living in Northumberland.
We're thrilled to introduce the SMILE Together project which will create opportunities for families with a disabled member, either child or adult, to take part and enjoy sport and physical activity as a family unit.
The SMILE Together project is a fantastic opportunity for families to be involved with, events and sessions are for families who struggle to access sport provision anywhere else. Our approach will be flexible and will create an environment which is non-judgemental and welcoming.
SMILE Together - What's Involved?
Over the course of the project, we aim to deliver:
Family activity days and challenges days, which will engage with all family members.
Awareness courses for parents, which will provide skills, confidence and ideas for families to do sport and physical activity in their own family time.
A resource pack of local attractions in Northumberland, detailing where family sport and physical activity can happen. It will include accessibility details and ideas of the types of activities to do.
An equipment library for families to access sports equipment, which can be loaned out for you to use and play in your family time.
Consultation forums for parents to engage with the project officer to provide feedback and opinions.
All SMILE Together sessions, events and consultation information will be shared widely on our website, Facebook and twitter pages so please keep checking for new and future activities.
We are looking to hold consultation forums and / or attend parent groups for the chance to consult with families, to engage with you, hear your views and opinions and to help shape the SMILE Together project. If you would like us to attend any meetings please contact Jenni and we'll be more than happy to come along.
We are very keen to work alongside organisations who have regular contact with families. This is to help spread the word about such a fantastic opportunity but also if your organisation could link with the project and offer any additional support or advice then please get in touch.
