In 2014 we launched our new disability sport development project Start to SMILE, through Sport England – Inclusive Sport Fund. The aim to increase the number of sport opportunities that are available across the whole of the North East. Over the past three years the project has delivered a vast amount of sport sessions, events, festivals and competitions in a variety of sports such as, Boccia, Athletics, Cricket and Multi-sport activities.

Since its inception in 2014, the project has worked with over 75 organisations or groups, achieving over 13,000 attendances and  over 3,000 new participants attending our sport session, events, festivals and competitions.

We are to hold two celebration multi-sport events to celebrate our Start to SMILE project with a number of groups, organisations and community members who have accessed new sport opportunities with us over the past 3 years. These events will consist of a number of different sport activities for people to take part in.

We will be looking back at the positive impact and the great success stories that have come from the Start to SMILE project. As well as looking forward to continuing the wonderful opportunities that have arouse and looking at ways to make these opportunities sustainable for future years. Whether you have been to our sessions in the past or you are a new participant looking to try out some sport activities, please come and help us celebrate our Start to SMILE project.

The first of these events will be held on Tuesday 7th November, 10am-12pm at the Willowburn Leisure Centre, Alnwick, NE66 2JH. Details of which you can find on the poster below.
