With the 2018 North East Disability Sport Awards upon us we are delighted to confirm that the nomination process has now opened. The award ceremony is held annually, and this year will take place at Kingston Park, Newcastle on Thursday 14th March 2019.
The North East Disability Sport Awards recognise a broad range of achievement and endeavour across the region and celebrate the fantastic achievements and contributions that athletes, coaches, clubs and schools have made to disability sport.Nominations for this high-profile date in the North East Disability Sport calendar will close on 13th January 2019.
The awards are organised by the four North East County Sport Partnerships – County Durham Sport, Northumberland Sport, Tees Valley Sport and Tyne and Wear Sport and this year are in association with the leisure operator Everyone Active. The event is also supported by Active Northumberland, Metro Rod North East and SMILE Through Sport.
Last year 108 nominations were received against the 10 award categories. The performance categories include Male and Female Personality, Young Male and Young Female Achiever and Team of the Year. There are also awards for Coach of the Year, Service to Sport, Participation, Schools and Clubs. Triple Paralympic Champion Stephen Miller is once again supporting the event through his Community Interest Company ‘SMILE Through Sport’. Stephen said, “There are some extremely talented sportspeople in the North East, and some exceptional clubs, coaches and volunteers who are dedicated to developing opportunities for disabled people to take part in sport. They do fantastic work and I hope a lot of people take the opportunity to nominate them to give them the recognition they deserve.”
Speaking about the upcoming awards, David Marrin, Assistant Director at Tyne and Wear Sport said “The awards are a fantastic way to highlight the successes of our region’s sporting stars. We are looking forward to celebrating some very talented sports people and recognising the excellent opportunities being provided by our community sports clubs. It’s great to have the opportunity to honour their achievements.”
Kingston Park, is famously known as the home of the Newcastle Falcons and Newcastle Thunder and plays host to large scale sporting events on a regular basis, making it a fitting venue for the 2018 North East Disability Sport Awards.
