Are you a young carer? Do you provide help or support to a family member or friend who has a disability, illness, has mental health issues or who miss-uses substances? If so you might be interested in an exciting new sports program currently running in Northumberland.
Carers Northumberland, SMILE Through Sport, and Voices Northumberland have teamed up to start a new Active Young Carers Project, designed to give young carers across Northumberland the opportunity to participate in sport and leisure activities.
This project, funded by Northumberland Sport and Northumberland’s Children Trust, aims to provide opportunities for young carers, aged 11-17 years, to participate in various sport and leisure activities throughout 2018. These activities include, Basketball, Cricket, a World Cup Celebration, Zumba, Netball and Wimbledon Celebration. These sport sessions are to be held across Northumberland with a launch event being held of Tuesday 10th April 2018 at Ashington Leisure Centre, 1pm – 4pm. If you are a young carer and would like to come to the launch of this project please feel free to drop in. The event is free of charge and no booking necessary. Friends and family are also welcome.
